Alternatives Selected for Detailed Study
The number of alternatives remaining under study has been reduced to a select few. In the Preliminary Alternatives Phase of project development, we explored a range of alternatives to meet the needs and objectives of the project. Generally, two alternatives were developed that would improve the existing roadway and four alternatives were developed that would provide a new, four-lane limited-access expressway. Three of these alternatives are being developed in more detail. They are the:
Transportation Systems Management (TSM) Alternative
Five-Lane Widening Alternative
Southern Relocation Alternative
Additionally, the No Build Alternative will also be studied since it provides a baseline for the comparison of benefits and impacts. The reasons for selecting these alternatives in summarized in the Spring 2005 newsletter. Further information concerning this subject is available in the executive summary of the Preliminary Alternatives Analysis Report. Copies of the full report are available for review at the East Lampeter, Leacock, Paradise, Sadsbury and Salisbury township offices, and at the County Planning Commission office.
What will Happen During Detailed Studies?
The Detailed Alternatives phase of project development will focus on minimizing and mitigating impacts to sensitive resources. Specialists will carry out fieldwork throughout the rest of the year and we will be seeking guidance from the Community Advisory Committee. You will be able to review and comment on our work at public meetings and through newsletters and this web site. We will further refine the alternatives based on this input.
