LOGO DESIGN CONTEST FOR PENNDOTS ROUTE 30 STUDY
STARTS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS
-- More information available on contest at www.route30corridor.com --
HARRISBURG (March 10) PennDOT is asking for help from local students in eastern Lancaster County to come up with a logo design. The logo design will be used over the next several years to identify PennDOTs study to develop major roadway improvements for the Route 30 corridor between Route 896 in East Lampeter Township and Gap in Salisbury Township. PennDOT has invited seven schools from the Pequea Valley and Conestoga School Districts to participate in the development of a logo for the Route 30 Corridor Improvement Study. This special contest is the lead effort in a much larger public involvement program, which includes public meetings, newsletters, a website, and a customer advisory committee.
"We really want to reach out into the community with our Route 30 study," said Barry Hoffman, PennDOTs district engineer for south central Pennsylvania. "The logo contest helps us spread the word about the study as well as encourage involvement in the process by the young people who live in this area."
Schools invited to participate are Pequea Valley Intermediate School, Paradise Elementary, Salisbury Elementary, Pequea Valley High School, Smoketown Elementary School, Conestoga Valley Middle School and Conestoga Valley High School. The logo contest is open to school students at the following three grade-levels:
Students who attend the schools listed above can enter the logo design contest which offers a grand prize of $350. The grand prize winning entry will also be used extensively in project-related communications such as newsletters and brochures. In addition, all students with winning entries will be recognized at a banquet where they will be presented with U.S. Savings Bonds.
PennDOT has initiated this study to improve safety conditions and reduce traffic congestion on the busy Route 30 corridor in eastern Lancaster County. This 9 _ mile portion of Route 30 is heavily traveled by both long distance haulers and local commuters as well as by tourists. A website has been established to provide more information on the environmental impact study and also on the Logo Design Contest.
