The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) requires a comprehensive assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts to evaluate all major Federal actions that would significantly affect the human environment.  For a federally-funded transportation project of this magnitude, NEPA mandates that alternatives be developed, their potential impacts assessed, and an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) be prepared.

Once we developed preliminary alternatives to improve Route 30, we began to assess the impacts the alternatives could have on the following critical features:

  • archaeological sites
  • historic structures/historic districts
  • other Section 4(f) lesources
  • farmland
  • waterways/floodplains
  • wetlands
  • wildlife and endangered species habitat
  • air quality
  • noise levels
  • hazardous waste sites
  • potential residential and commercial displacements
  • hoss of tax revenues

This information will be reported to you at public meetings, on this website and will be summarized in the EIS.
